3. Historic Charleston City Market

5. Aiken-Rhett House Museum

Make time to visit the Aiken-Rhett House Museum in Charleston for a taste of antebellum life. The historic home, built in 1820, provides a riveting story of the pre-Civil War South. Much of what you’ll see here dates back to the stormy first century of its occupation. The former slave quarters are the most interesting part of the Aiken-Rhett House tour. When slavery was in the United States, the slave quarters were demolished. Since then, they’ve remained unaltered, a genuine time capsule of enslaved life in the 1850s.
